Before becoming financially independent, my every day was consumed with running and managing my small business. Although I love what I do, it didn’t leave much room for anything else.

After years in the business, my wife and I felt like we were hitting a wall and wanted something different for our future. What we craved was financial freedom.

There were plenty of signs in the years leading up to our decision to finally take control of our financial freedom, but we either weren’t paying attention or were not ready to make a change.

That is why we are motivated to help others in similar situations, who crave financial freedom but don’t know how to take control.

Most are small business owners, doctors, engineers and lawyers. Some of the most intelligent, innovative and capable people in our country are not financially independent.

In fact, only 3% (or less) of our country’s top earners will retire to an equivalent lifestyle as in their working years.

Something about that just isn’t right, and it’s time we fix it!

I feel so passionately about this topic, and it has been the driving force for founding Smart Asset Opportunities. As I said, I want to help that remain 97% become financially independent and enjoy the life they’ve always wanted.

If you believe you may fall into that category, take a look at four tell-tale signs you’re ready for financial freedom.

1. You’re burned out.

Every day you are pushed to your maximum output, and you’re hitting a limit. For many professionals reaching retirement age, this has been the norm for decades, and it’s finally catching up with you.

It’s time to get back to enjoying your work.

2. You’ve lost your passion.

Something you were once so passionate about has now become a chore or just routine. It’s not that you dislike what you do, but you don’t feel that same spark that gets you out of bed.

It’s time for something new and fresh.

3. You want to pursue a new endeavor.

You have a new passion or dream, and with greater financial freedom, you’d finally have the opportunity to pursue it. Perhaps it’s a new business, an investment, a charitable donation or plans for your family.

What would you do if money was no object?

4. You want to call the shots.

You understand that if you want to get something done, you have to take matters into your own hands! It’s time to take control of your situation and create the future you’ve always wanted.

No one is going to make it happen for you — you have to get it done!
